Wherefore art thou, X: The app formerly known as Twitter recently rolled out an update displaying the region or country where accounts are based, in an attempt to catch bots. Turns out the “hot single” in “your area” is actually from a bot farm in Moldova…sorry. (more)
They just need a small loan of $207 billion: That’s billion with a b. OpenAI won’t be profitable until 2030, and is still hundreds of billions of dollars short of funding its growth plans. (more)
F1 fans, try to control yourselves: For the 32nd time in F1 history, the title is coming down to the last race. Will it be Lando Norris (whom I’ve met, and I need everyone to know), Max Verstappen, or Oscar Piastri? Some real nerds have mapped out all the possible permutations, and I love it. My money is on my personal friend Lando.
By the numbers
$147 million: How much Wicked: For Good made in its opening weekend at the domestic box office. I might have accounted for a hefty percentage of that, and it changed me for good. (more)
$556 million: not to be outdone, this was the global box office opening weekend for Zootopia. This broke records, especially in China. (more)
14: the number of years since Apple shipped out more phones than Samsung, until this year. (more)

Make Your Money Work While You Sleep (Or Scroll)
Stop grinding harder. Start automating smarter. While you’re busy living your life, these set-it-and-forget-it moves are quietly stacking cash in the background.
Your “too lazy to fail” money moves:
Let robots fight your bills: Download Truebill or Rocket Money. They haggle with Comcast so you don’t have to. Average person saves $500+/year doing absolutely nothing. That’s a PS5 earned by being lazy.
Turn coffee into investments: Acorns rounds up every purchase. Buy a $3.50 latte? That 50¢ change gets invested. You’re building wealth one overpriced drink at a time. $30-50/month invested without feeling it.
Hack travel without leaving town: Your dining points on travel credit cards transfer to Uber cash at 1.5x value. Those tacos you bought last night? They’re tomorrow’s free ride.
Game the cashback system: Buy gift cards during 5% grocery store promos for places you’d shop anyway. Need Amazon stuff? Buy Amazon gift cards at the grocery store. It’s like getting paid to shop where you already shop.
The Rebel’s Rule: If companies are profiting from you, find ways to profit back. Every system has loopholes. Every app has signup bonuses. Every bill is negotiable. Stop playing defense with money and start playing offense.

Stock Summary: U.S. stock markets opened December with a slide. The Dow Jones, S&P 500 and Nasdaq all fell, while Bitcoin plunged sharply as investor risk-appetite dropped, similar to my turkey-appetite. (more)
It’s pronounced “cool,” this week: Kohl's stock (yes, Kohl’s) jumped sharply because the company delivered stronger-than-expected third-quarter results. (more)

Crypto Moves
Caveman Crypto Summary: Bitcoin go down big. People get scared. Even company with most Bitcoin losing money. But they still buying more Bitcoin anyway. In other words…
Bitcoin plunged over 8% on Monday to $84,000 amid fears of Japanese interest rate hikes, prompting concerns that investors were unwinding leveraged trades.
Bitcoin holder MicroStrategy (MSTR) has dropped 40% amid worries it might have to sell coins to cover debt—though the company just announced a $1.44 billion cash reserve and added 130 more bitcoins to its 650,000-coin stash.
Real Money Moves
Phoebe, 27 - Harrisburg, PA
Each week, we feature a reader’s smartest and dumbest money moves. We’re all in this together; let’s learn from each other.
Best Money Move - Eloping
“We eloped in Vegas for $500 instead of dropping $30k on a wedding. Put the rest in index funds. Five years later, that money’s worth $45k and we’re still married.”
“I watched my sister stress for a year planning her $25k wedding and was so glad we skipped that!”
“When we told our families we were eloping and investing the wedding fund, they were mad for a month. Now they ask us for financial advice because we’re the only ones with a house down payment.”
Worst Money Move - Freelancing without a tax plan
“I went full-time freelance, thinking I was making bank. Didn’t save for taxes, health insurance, or retirement. Turns out my ‘amazing’ income was actually less than my old job after real costs.”
“I made $50k freelancing and spent it all, forgetting I’m my own employer. Tax bill: $15k. Current savings: $37.”
“I celebrated every big client payment by spending it immediately. Freelance freedom turned into tax prison real quick.”
The bottom line: Every money move teaches you something — whether it builds your net worth or humbles your ego.

Side Hustle Differently
Each week, we focus on money-making opportunities for a side hustle that could potentially become a full-time venture. No MLM schemes, no “passive income” lies, just real strategies for stacking cash outside your 9-5
Dryer Vent Cleaning
What it is: The hidden service homeowners desperately need but don’t know who to call for. You become that person.
Your lint-to-cash blueprint:
Stupid simple startup: Air compressor, shop vac, some hoses. No certifications needed. Start this weekend, break even after two jobs.
The “Safety Sells” strategy: Market it as fire prevention, not just cleaning. Homeowners pay premium prices for peace of mind. Takes 45 minutes, pays like skilled labor.
Recurring revenue machine: Offer annual service contracts. Get paid upfront for work you’ll do later. Twenty regular customers = steady income on autopilot.
Big picture: This is the perfect example of solving expensive problems with simple solutions. Homeowners face potential fire hazards and sky-high energy bills from clogged vents. You show up with basic tools and fix both. Sometimes the best side hustle is the one hiding in plain sight.
